1code Studio Terms of Service

Last updated: 30 October 2026 · Version 1

These terms are the agreement between you and 1code for everything at 1code Studio: the apps, 1code ID, 1code Mail, the 1code phone app, free sites and domains. If you live in South Africa, you contract with and pay 1code X (Pty) Ltd. Everyone else contracts with and pays 1CODE X LTD in the United Kingdom. What you make stays yours. We host it only to run the service, and we never sell it or train AI on it. You can connect your own AI, but you are responsible for what it does, and we never hold your AI account details. Paid plans are monthly. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the month you paid for. We may remove harmful content and pause accounts, sites or apps that cause harm. The "For everyone" part applies to everyone. Your country's section adds the rights your law gives you, and nothing here takes those rights away. Please read sections 4 (your phone and recovery), 9 (AI agents and apps), 12 (domains), 14 (suspension) and 16 (our responsibility) with care: they limit our responsibility or place some risks on you.

1. Who we are and who you contract with

"1code" is two companies that work together.

Your contract is with:

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean the company you contract with. Where these terms talk about 1code ID, 1code Mail or personal data, they also mean 1CODE X LTD. "You" means the person who accepts these terms. If you accept them for an organisation, "you" also means that organisation.

The country you give when you sign up decides which company you contract with and which country section applies to you. It must be the country where you live or, for a business, where it is established. If you move, change it in your settings. 1code.co.za always shows the South African version of the website, and 1code.uk the UK version, but the web address you used does not change who you contract with.

2. What these terms cover

These terms cover 1code Studio: the website at 1code.studio, 1code.co.za and 1code.uk, the products in section 5, 1code ID, 1code Mail, the 1code phone app, the 1code connector and developer API, free sites at 1code.host, and domains you register through us. In these terms we call all of this "1code".

These policies are part of these terms:

If a policy and these terms disagree, these terms apply, except on how we handle personal data, where the Privacy Policy applies.

Separate developer terms will apply before the 1code API and connector open to outside developers. If you build an app on 1code for other people to use, they will also apply to you.

You accept these terms when you create an account. When you accept, we record the version, the date and time, and the country you gave. We do the same each time you accept a new version.

How the agreement is made. You choose your country, read these terms and accept them, and then create your account. To buy a plan or a domain, you choose it, see a summary with the full price, and pay. Before you accept or pay, you can go back and correct any mistake, or stop. We keep the version you accepted, and you can ask us for a copy at any time. These terms are offered in English.

3. Who can use 1code

4. Your account and 1code ID

Signing in. You sign in to 1code with 1code ID. There is no password. In the 1code phone app, you sign in with your phone and your fingerprint or face. On the web, you may get a one-time code by email, or a request to approve the sign-in on your phone.

Your phone is your key. Keep your phone and its lock under your control. Anyone who can unlock your phone with a fingerprint or face enrolled on it can approve sign-ins and actions as you. Never approve a sign-in or an action you did not start.

Recovery. Your phone holds a private key that never leaves it. We never hold that key or your fingerprint or face, so we cannot reset your account or sign in as you. You can get back in on a new phone only through the key holders you chose in 1code ID. A key holder who confirms a recovery that was not really yours can let someone else take over your account, so choose them carefully. If you lose your phone and have no key holders, we cannot recover your account.

One person, one account. Your account is for you alone. Do not share it, and do not use a name that misleads people or belongs to someone else.

Companies and workspaces. If a company adds you to its workspace, the company (its owner and admins) runs that workspace. It can create, suspend, see and close the accounts and mailboxes in it, and it keeps your work content if you leave. Your personal account stays yours.

Your responsibility. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including what people you add, and agents and apps you connect, do. Tell us at once at privacy@1code.email if you think your account or phone has been misused.

5. The products

Some features are marked as preview or "coming". A preview feature may change or end. A "coming" feature is not part of 1code until we release it.

What you need. 1code works in current versions of the major web browsers. 1code ID needs a phone with a fingerprint or face lock and secure key storage. The Android versions the phone app supports are listed on Google Play. An iPhone app is planned.

6. Free and paid plans

7. Your content

8. Data you hold about other people

Sometimes you use 1code to handle other people's personal data, and you decide why and how it is used. Examples:

For that data you are the controller (the "responsible party" under POPIA), and we act for you as your processor (your "operator" under POPIA). You must have a lawful reason to collect it, tell people what you do with it, and answer their requests about it.

For that data, this section is our data-processing agreement with you under Article 28 of the GDPR and the UK GDPR, and section 21 of POPIA.

What it covers. The data is whatever personal data you or your people put in 1code: for example names, contact details, messages, files, recordings, sign-ups, orders and invoices about the people listed above. We store, host, send, show and otherwise process it to run 1code for you, for as long as you use 1code, and then for the deletion and backup times in the Privacy Policy.

We:

9. AI agents and apps you connect

Your own AI. You can connect your own AI agent, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, to 1code. You do this through the 1code connector (MCP) or the developer API, using your own subscription or your own keys.

Keys you create. Treat the API keys and connections you create like passwords. If one leaks, revoke it. We may limit how much and how fast the API and connector are used.

Our own AI features. Any AI feature that 1code itself provides runs on our own API keys with our AI providers, never on your personal AI subscription. We tell you when you are dealing with AI. AI can be wrong, so check its output before you rely on it.

Apps built by others. Developers can build apps on 1code. An app is run by its developer under the developer's own terms, and the developer is responsible for it. An app gets only the access you approve, and you can remove it at any time. We may pause an app that causes harm. If we do, we tell the people who use it.

10. Free sites on 1code.host

11. Email

This is a summary. The full rules are in the Acceptable Use Policy.

12. Domains you register through us

13. Acceptable use

The full rules are in the Acceptable Use Policy. In short, do not use 1code to:

If you find a security problem, tell us at privacy@1code.email.

Reporting. Anyone can report content or behaviour that breaks these rules, by writing to privacy@1code.email or with the report link where we show one.

How we enforce the rules. We use automatic tools, such as spam and malware checks and the scanning of free sites, and people. Depending on the harm, we may remove content, limit features, pause sending, pause an app or account, or close an account.

14. Suspension and closing accounts

You. You can stop using 1code and close your account at any time, in your settings or by asking us. Download what you want to keep first. Closing your account ends any paid plan straight away, and you lose the rest of the month you paid for. To keep it, cancel your plan first and close your account when the month ends. We delete your data within 30 days, apart from backups for the times in the Privacy Policy. Your domains stay yours (section 12).

Us. We may limit, pause or close an account, site, app or piece of content if:

Before we act. We tell you first and give you a chance to respond or fix the problem. We act first and tell you afterwards only when there is urgent harm, when the law does not let us tell you, or when telling you would help someone cause harm. A person reviews every pause or removal. If we pause something at once to stop harm in progress, a person reviews it straight after. Nothing with serious effects is decided by a computer alone.

When we act. We tell you what we did, why, which rule it was under, whether automatic tools were used, and how to ask us to look again. You can ask within 6 months. A person reviews your request.

Your content. Unless the content is illegal or the law stops us, we give you a reasonable chance to download your content before we delete it.

Refunds. If we close a paid account and you did not break these terms, we refund what you paid for the time you will not get.

15. Availability and changes to the products

16. Our responsibility to you

This section limits our responsibility. Please read it carefully.

We provide 1code with reasonable care and skill.

What we never limit. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our responsibility for:

Limits. Apart from that, and as far as the law allows:

If you use 1code for a business. You will cover our losses, and our reasonable costs, from claims by other people that are caused by your content, your sales, your sites, the agents and apps you connect, or your breach of these terms or the law. We will tell you about such a claim promptly and let you take part in dealing with it. This paragraph does not apply to consumers.

By country

South Africa

This section applies if you live in South Africa or your business is established there. It adds to the "For everyone" part. Where the two differ, this section applies.

Who you contract with

Your contract is with 1code X (Pty) Ltd. It bills you in rand through Paystack. 1CODE X LTD is the responsible party for your personal data under POPIA. The South Africa section of the Privacy Policy explains this.

Information the law says we must give you (ECTA section 43)

  • Full name and legal status: 1code X (Pty) Ltd, a private company.
  • Registration number and place of registration: 2025/981275/07, South Africa.
  • Office bearers: Thebe Phele, director.
  • Physical address, and address for legal documents: 2 The Circus St, Three Rivers, Vereeniging 1935, South Africa.
  • Phone: see section 20.
  • Website and email: 1code.co.za (and 1code.studio); support@1code.studio.
  • Self-regulation: we do not belong to any self-regulatory body or code of conduct, and we do not subscribe to an alternative dispute resolution code.
  • What you buy and what it costs: sections 5 and 6, and the plans page. Prices include any tax that applies.
  • How you pay: through Paystack. Paystack handles your card details, and we never see or store full card numbers. The Privacy Policy explains how we protect your personal information.
  • How long: paid plans last one month and renew monthly until you cancel. There is no fixed term.
  • When it starts: a paid plan starts as soon as your payment goes through. A domain is usually registered within minutes of your payment, and at most within one business day.
  • Your records: we email a receipt for each payment. You can see and download your invoices in your billing settings.
  • Before you pay: you see a summary of what you are buying and its full price, and you can correct mistakes or stop.
  • Returns and refunds: section 6, and the cooling-off rules below.
  • These terms: you can read, save and print them at any time on 1code.co.za.

Cooling-off (ECTA section 44)

  • If you buy a plan, a service or a domain online, you may cancel within 7 days of the agreement, without a reason or a penalty. We refund you within 30 days.
  • This right does not apply to a service that starts, with your consent, before the 7 days end. A paid plan starts when you pay, and you confirm that you want it to start at once. A domain is registered within one business day at most. So once your plan has started or your domain is registered, the cooling-off right no longer applies to it. You can still cancel your plan at any time under section 6.
  • If something you bought has not started yet, you may cancel it within the 7 days for a full refund.

Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act

  • The Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (CPA) applies to you if you are a consumer, or a business under the threshold the Act sets (at present, an asset value or yearly turnover below R2 million). Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under it.
  • Quality. You have the right to services delivered on time and of the quality people are generally entitled to expect. If we fall short, you can ask us to fix the problem or refund a reasonable part of the price.
  • Gross negligence. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for loss caused by our gross negligence or that of anyone acting for us.
  • Death or injury. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury that we cause.
  • Covering our losses. If the CPA protects you, the paragraph in section 16 that asks a business to cover our losses does not apply to you.
  • No fixed term. Plans run month to month, and you can cancel at any time.
  • Clauses we draw to your attention (CPA section 49). These clauses limit our responsibility, place risks on you, or ask you to cover our losses. If you live in South Africa, we show you these clauses before you accept these terms, so that you can read them before you agree:
    • section 4: your phone, key holders and recovery;
    • section 9: the agents and apps you connect, and turning approvals off;
    • section 12: domain expiry;
    • section 14: suspension;
    • section 16: our responsibility, and what a business must cover.
  • Complaints. Talk to us first. If we cannot settle your complaint, you can go to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (cgso.org.za), the National Consumer Commission or your provincial consumer protection office. For privacy complaints, you can go to the Information Regulator.

Law and courts

  • Your contract with 1code X (Pty) Ltd is governed by South African law, and the South African courts deal with disputes. This replaces the law and courts in section 18.
  • ECTA's consumer protections apply to you whatever law governs these terms (ECTA section 47).

Data you hold about others (POPIA)

For the personal data in section 8, section 8 is the written contract that POPIA section 21 requires between you, as the responsible party, and us, as your operator. Data moves across borders under POPIA section 72, as section 8 describes.

Selling in South Africa

Before you can sell, we check your identity and business. For example, we ask for your identity document, your CIPC registration certificate if you trade as a company, a bank letter and proof of address. Payouts go to a South African bank account in your name or your business's name.

United Kingdom

This section applies if you live in the United Kingdom or your business is established there. It adds to the "For everyone" part. Where the two differ, this section applies.

Who you contract with

Your contract is with 1CODE X LTD. It bills you through Stripe.

Your rights as a consumer

  • Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, our services must be provided with reasonable care and skill. Digital content we supply must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
  • If they are not, you can ask us to put it right or provide the service again, or, if we cannot, get some money back. If digital content we supply damages your device or other content because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or compensate you.
  • Section 16 does not limit these rights.
  • If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in the courts there, and the mandatory law where you live applies.
  • Citizens Advice can tell you more about your rights.

Cancelling within 14 days

  • Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you can cancel a paid plan within 14 days, starting the day after you buy it, for any reason.
  • When you buy, you ask us to start your plan straight away. If you cancel within the 14 days, we refund what you paid, less a fair amount for the days you had the service. We refund you within 14 days, by the payment method you used.
  • Once a service has been fully provided at your request, such as a domain that has been registered, you can no longer cancel it. You confirm this when you ask us to start.
  • To cancel, use your billing settings, write to support@1code.studio, or send us the form below or any clear statement that you want to cancel.
  • After you buy, we email you a confirmation with these terms, what you bought, and your request to start straight away.
  • Where the subscription rules of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 apply, we follow them, including reminders, easy cancellation and the cooling-off rights they give you.

Cancellation form (only if you want to use it):

To 1CODE X LTD, 2 Centurion Way, Credenhill, Hereford HR4 7FF, United Kingdom, support@1code.studio: I give notice that I cancel my contract for the following service: [plan or service]. Ordered on: [date]. Name: [your name]. Address: [your address]. Date: [date].

Business customers

If you use 1code for a business, the limits in section 16 apply as far as they are reasonable under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977.

If we cannot settle a complaint

We do not have to use an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. If we cannot settle your complaint, we will tell you the name of a certified ADR provider and whether we agree to use it.

Cookies and electronic marketing (PECR)

1code does not put advertising or tracking cookies on its own pages. If you run a site or store on 1code, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) apply to you. Get consent before you set cookies that are not essential. Do not send electronic marketing without consent, and remember that 1code may not be used for marketing email at all.

Data protection

The UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply to how we handle personal data. Section 8 is our Article 28 contract for the data you hold about others. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Online safety

The places where people share content with each other (Channels, Rooms, files shared from Drive, and public sites and stores, including free sites on 1code.host) are user-to-user services under the Online Safety Act 2023, and we have the duties it sets. We assess and record their risks, as the Act requires. The Acceptable Use Policy says more.

  • We take steps to protect you from illegal content: we act on reports quickly and remove illegal content when we find it. The automatic tools we use to find it, and when and how they work, are described in the Acceptable Use Policy (United Kingdom section).
  • You can complain to us at privacy@1code.email about content, about a decision to remove your content or restrict your account, or about how we meet these duties. We deal with every complaint, and a person reviews decisions about your content and account (section 14).
European Union

This section applies if you live in a country of the European Union or the wider European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), or your business is established there. It adds to the "For everyone" part. Where the two differ, this section applies.

Who you contract with

Your contract is with 1CODE X LTD, a company in the United Kingdom. It bills you through Stripe. Prices for consumers include the VAT of your country. You can reach us at support@1code.studio or by phone (section 20). After you buy, we email you a confirmation with these terms, what you bought, and your request to start straight away.

Your rights as a consumer

  • The mandatory consumer law of the country where you live applies to you, whatever section 18 says. You can bring a claim in the courts where you live.
  • We will not rely on any term that your country's law treats as unfair.
  • Our digital services must match what we promised and be fit for their purpose. If they do not, you can have the problem fixed, get a price reduction, or end the contract.
  • If we change a paid service. If a change harms your access to a paid service, or your use of it, more than slightly, we tell you in advance. You can then end the contract free of charge within 30 days of the change or of our notice, whichever is later. We refund what you paid for the time after it ends.

Your right of withdrawal (14 days)

  • You can withdraw from a paid plan within 14 days of buying it, without giving a reason.
  • When you buy, we ask you to confirm two things:
    • that you want the service to start straight away, and that if you withdraw, you pay for the days you had it;
    • that once a service has been fully provided, such as a domain that has been registered, you lose the right to withdraw from it.

This is how the right of withdrawal works once a service has started.

  • How to withdraw: use the "withdraw from contract" button, which every EU and EEA consumer has in their account's billing settings, write to support@1code.studio, or send us the form below or any clear statement.
  • We confirm your withdrawal by email. We refund you within 14 days of receiving it, by the payment method you used, at no charge.

Withdrawal form (only if you want to use it):

To 1CODE X LTD, 2 Centurion Way, Credenhill, Hereford HR4 7FF, United Kingdom, support@1code.studio: I give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the following service: [plan or service]. Ordered on: [date]. Name: [your name]. Address: [your address]. Date: [date].

Content rules and reports (Digital Services Act)

  • Points of contact. Authorities and users can contact us at privacy@1code.email, in English.
  • Legal representative. We have not yet appointed a legal representative in the EU under the Digital Services Act (Article 13), or a representative under the GDPR (Article 27). We will appoint and name them before we market to people in the EU.
  • Reporting illegal content. Anyone can report content they believe is illegal. Your report should include:
    • why you believe it is illegal;
    • exactly where it is (a link);
    • your name and email address (not needed for reports of child sexual abuse material);
    • a statement that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete.

We confirm we received your report, decide on it carefully and in good time, and tell you our decision and how to challenge it. We tell you if automatic tools were used.

  • How we moderate. We use automatic tools, such as spam and malware checks and the scanning of free sites, and people. Automatic tools may act at once on clear cases such as malware. A person reviews any decision you ask us to look at again.
  • Reasons. When we remove or block content, limit who can see it, hold payments to you, or suspend or close your account, we send you a statement of reasons. It says what we did, the facts, whether automatic tools were used, the law or rule we relied on, and how you can challenge it: with us, in court, or through an out-of-court body where you have access to one.
  • Looking again. You can ask us to review a decision within 6 months, free of charge. A person decides.
  • Repeated misuse. After a warning, we may suspend accounts that often share clearly illegal content. We may also stop handling reports from people who often send clearly unfounded ones.

Business customers (P2B Regulation)

Where the EU or UK platform-to-business rules apply to a service (such as a future app marketplace) that you use as a business to reach consumers:

  • we give you at least 15 days' notice of changes to these terms;
  • we give you at least 30 days' notice before we stop serving you altogether, unless the law requires faster action or you have repeatedly broken these terms;
  • we give you a statement of reasons when we restrict, suspend or end our service to you.

Data protection

The GDPR applies to how we handle personal data. 1CODE X LTD is in the United Kingdom, which the EU recognises as giving adequate protection. Section 8 is our Article 28 contract for the data you hold about others. You can complain to the data-protection authority in your country.

Everywhere else your region

This section applies if you live anywhere other than South Africa, the United Kingdom, the European Union or the wider European Economic Area.

  • Who you contract with. Your contract is with 1CODE X LTD. It bills you through Stripe, in the currency shown at checkout. Where your country's law requires it, we add or include VAT, GST or sales tax.
  • Your local rights. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales (section 18). You keep every protection your country's law gives you that cannot be contracted away, and you can bring a claim in your local courts where that law allows it.
  • Data protection. The Privacy Policy explains your rights where you live.
